Welcome to ILA Michigan
India League of America (ILA) is a non-profit, secular organization formed in 1978. ILA was formed with a mission to champion the interests of Indian American community in Michigan and to celebrate and expose the Indian traditions and culture to foster a better understanding of US and India, and to integrate Asian Indian American community with the general community. India is a very diverse country with many languages and cultures. ILA has been instrumental in bringing the Michigan Asian Indian American community organizations together by organizing various cultural and social events. ILA is thankful and appreciates the support of the people and Government of the State of Michigan and United States.
Mission Statement:
“The Corporation is a charitable and educational organization created to provide a common vehicle for the expression of cultural, educational, social and economic affairs of the people of Indian origin in North America and shall operate exclusively for the objectives and/or activities to promote North American interest in the cultural, social, educational and economic aspects of Asian Indians in North America”
Our Key Activities
India Day
This annual event, the largest indoor Indian event in the Midwest, commemorates India's Independence Day. Attended by approximately 40,000 people from diverse backgrounds, AQL India Day features cultural performances, traditional music and dance, food, and various activities that showcase India's diverse cultural heritage. Supported by large organizations like GM, Ford, DTE Energy, BCBS, and many others, the event is a significant highlight in the community calendar.
India Fest
Held to celebrate India’s Republic Day, India Fest is a vibrant festival that highlights the rich traditions and cultural practices of India. The event includes cultural exhibits, performances, and educational activities, providing a platform for the community to come together and honor India’s history and achievements.
Consular Day
In collaboration with the Indian Consulate of Chicago, the ILA organizes India Consular Day. This event provides consular services to the Indian community in Michigan, including help with passport renewals applications, visa applications, and other consular needs like power of attorney, document attestations etc. It ensures that the community has access to essential services without the need to travel long distances.
